Oh my my! It has been a lonnngggg time since I've last blogged. Time sure does fly by! Hope you forgive me. In the meantime, I hope things have kept you well.
I'm linking up with Curious Firsties with their Wednesday WOW! linky party. (I must worn you, this post might be a tad too long.)
Here we go:
1. I always encourage my students to use descriptive words in their writing. In order to make this concept fun and engaging, I brought in a pumpkin. My students were beyond excited to see a pumpkin 'sitting' on my desk. We first started the lesson by reviewing nouns. Then, all of a sudden, one of my students says, "Hey, that pumpkin is a noun!" Boy, was I happy that the light had finally come on. That was my cue to say, "Great! Now, let's describe this noun. Can you think of some adjectives?" As soon as I was given the first adjective, I wrote that adjective on the pumpkin with my handy dandy Sharpie. Ohhhh boy! You should have seen everyone's hands go up as soon as the first word was written on that pumpkin. After that, they all wanted 'their adjective' to be written on the class pumpkin.
(please don't judge me...."sphere" is not an adjective, I actually meant to write "spherical")
(For the life of me, I can't remember where I saw this idea, so if it's you, please let me know so that I can give you full credit for it.)
2. We just finished learning about graphing. We used Halloween foam stickers and Jolly Ranchers.
(again...let me know if I need to give you credit...)
3. Our pen pal letters were mailed out to Pennsylvania. We made bookmarks, too.
We also sent this book to our Pen Pals! It provides detailed information about each of the provinces.
4. Lastly!!!! My report cards are DONE! Yeyyyy!
Now, it's time to go and see what everyone else has been up to. Hope you'll share your WOW's, too!
Love your idea of writing right on the pumpkin, a great visual ! I bought those plastic pouches and have been waiting for an idea to use them.....graphing !! Perfect !!! Just relaxing a bit after interviews tonight 😀. Thanks for the great ideas !
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the foam stickers. I always pick them up right after the holiday when they are on sale and then forget to use them!! Thanks for all the ideas!
